What is Social Wellness

Social Wellness or Social Health is being comfortable with yourself and accepting others.

Social Wellness can be achieved by putting energy in developing and maintaining good relationships with people around you and by making a contribution to the welfare of your neighbourhood i.e. your community.

Social Wellness - four main key factors:

Good relationships

- Interact with others like you would others to interact with you; be positive, free of stress and abuse.

- Show respect to others in order to receive respect from others Encourage well being.

- Be aware of your way of communicating and try to understand others.

Get involved in your Community

- Spend time in voluntary work for charities.

- Investigate the possibility to help in the educational support of our youth.

- Join a club or society of your interest.

- Make others aware on how to improve the living environment.

Create interdependence

- Be willing to help others.

- But also do not be afraid of asking help from others.

Accept the diversity

Accept your fellow neighbour or colleague, regardless of his/her race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disabilities, age or gender etc.

When you have more social networks you will feel better emotionally and physically. Social networks will protect you from becoming depressed.

A Person that is aware of his Social Wellness responsibilities will interact better and healthier with other people involved in their life. This will automatically create a similar response from the 2nd person.

People communicating in a good way with each other will always find ways to solve potential problems, before it will increase their stress and/or frustration.

People that are aware of the need of social wellness as part of their daily live will have fewer stress symptoms and sickness. They have a positive look towards themselves and those around them.

When you take part in social activities you will be able to interact with (groups of) individuals with similar interests and beliefs. Who knows, you might find your (new) best friend.
